Just Transition Finance Lab engagement at COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye

Published on October 26, 2026

Liam Orme and Drew Johnson will be representing the Just Transition Finance Lab at COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye (9–20 November 2026), highlighting opportunities to direct and mobilise finance towards just transitions. They will follow the negotiations and take part in a series of side events, informal roundtables and meetings.

Their engagement in Antalya will focus on three main areas:

  1. The Just Transition Mechanism and the Just Transition Work Programme: the Lab recently co-drafted a discussion paper with the Climate Action Network (CAN) arguing that the Mechanism should mobilise and coordinate just transition finance across existing climate finance. Forthcoming analysis explores how the JTM might help address fragmentation in the landscape of just transition support or avoid reproducing it.
  2. Just transition in banking: including sharing findings from forthcoming JTFL research on how banks can use transition planning to embed just transition across strategy, products, risk management, metrics and governance, and how regulators and standard setters can provide clearer guidance.
  3. Just transition in GSS+ bonds: promoting the outcomes of the JTFL and 103 Ventures’ GSS+ Bonds Community of Practice, whose forthcoming report sets out how just transition principles can be embedded in bond frameworks.

Their engagements will also draw on a recent synthesis of the Lab’s research on ‘Emerging best practices just transition finance,’ as well as research mapping forces challenging just transition finance. Jointly, this research highlights layered challenges: just transition practice in private finance remains clustered around narrow, compliance-based protections; the business case for proactive measures is still largely conceptual.

Further details forthcoming; this page will be updated accordingly.
